Fennel

Fennel (Foeniculum Vulgare)

Obtained from the leaves of the fennel plant, dried seeds, or grinding of these seeds. Used for adding its beautiful aroma and taste in fish and chicken dishes, salads. It is also used in the production of some floury and sugary foods locally. Salads are made in North African and European countries from their sweet and fragrant fruit, which resembles a flower bulb under the ground, or it can also be eaten as a fruit.

It is one of the three main plants that appeared as a medicinal plant in Europe and was used in the preparation of absinthe, a popular alcoholic beverage in France and other countries towards the end of the 19th century. Fennel fruit is also used in the production of akvavit.
